About the Society
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society helps each person address the challenges of living with MS through our 50-state network of chapters. We fund cutting-edge research, drive change through advocacy, facilitate professional education, collaborate with MS organizations around the world and provide programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move forward. The Society is dedicated to achieving a world free of MS. We are people who want to do something about MS NOW.

About the Maryland Chapter
The Maryland Chapter, established in 1955, serves more than 6,000 people affected by MS in Central Maryland, Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore.
Research and Clinical - We Provide:
- - More than $750,000 annually in support of local and national research investigations.
- - An annual Research Symposium, where the brightest MS experts present the latest research progress in MS.
- - Funding in support of clinical care at two of the most prominent MS centers in the country: Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland.
Advocacy and Activism - We Champion:
- - At the state level for continued funding of stem cell research projects.
- - For legislation that would eliminate cost sharing and specialty tiers in prescription drug coverage.
- - For legislation that mandates insurance companies provide Marylanders with MS access to physical and occupational therapy throughout their disease course to achieve and maintain physical function.
- - For responsible health care reform for all. We help people with MS navigate the complexities of the recent federal law.
Programs and Services - We Provide:
- - Information and referral services in response to thousands of inquiries each year from individuals in Maryland looking for answers to questions about MS and community resources.
- - Financial assistance to help lessen the burden that living with MS can create.
- - Opportunities to connect others living with MS through our network of over 15 self-help groups and numerous educational workshops.
