About the Walk MS

Q: Where is Walk MS?

Walk MS will be held in 10 different locations throughout Maryland. To find a Walk MS event near you, visit the Event Details page.

Q: What time does Walk MS start?

Registration for Walk MS starts at 9:00 a.m. All the Walks begin at 10:00 a.m.

Q: How many miles is the Walk MS event?

Walk MS is 3.2 miles or 5K.

Q: Does it cost anything to participate?

There is no fee for Walk MS, but we ask that all walkers bring a pledge/donation to help create a world free of MS. Your donations and efforts help the 6,500 Marylanders who are living with MS. If your pledges total $125 or more, you will receive an official Walk MS t-shirt. There is no minimum pledge goal.

Q: How can I become more involved in Walk MS?

Q: Where does the money go?

Your money helps the 6,500 people in Maryland living with multiple sclerosis as well as funding national research. There are numerous research programs happening in Maryland.

Q: Who do I make checks payable to?

Please make all checks payable to National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Q: Where do I send my pledge money?

Your donations can be mailed at anytime to:

To ensure that your checks are logged quickly and correctly after they arrive at our office, please enter information about your offline donors exactly as it appears on the donors' personal checks.

Q: Can my child (12 or under) participate in the Walk MS? Do they need to raise money?

Walk MS is a family event for all ages! Although there is no minimum fundraising for any walkers, children or adults please keep in mind that with a little help from an adult, children have the potential to be big fund-raisers!

Q: Can I bring my dog?

Yes, but dogs are not allowed in any building. This is a rule of the facilities. Dogs must be kept on a leash and please come prepared to clean up after your dog.

Q: How long will the Walk MS take?

It depends on how fast you walk. Usually you can estimate 20 to 30 minutes per mile.

Q: Are the routes accessible to people who use wheelchairs or scooters?

Yes. All of our routes are accessible for participants in wheelchairs or scooters, as well as families with strollers or wagons.

Q: What if it rains?

Walk MS will take place rain or shine!

Q: What if I forgot my username and password?

Remember that your username and password are case sensitive. Click here to find your password. You will receive an e-mail with your username and password. If you still have problems, please contact us at shawn.slotke@nmss.org for help.

Q: How do I change my username or password?

First, login to the site using your username and password. Once logged in you will see a link at the top of the page called "Update My Profile." Once in your profile, you will be able to change your contact information, e-mail address, username and password. All changes will be made to your account immediately. There is no need to sign in again.

Q: What is a Personal Page?

A personal page is an online promotional tool for your use when asking your friends or family to join your team or sponsor you by making a donation. Once you sign up for an event online, by default, you will have a personal page created for you.You have the option of personalizing this page by going to your Walk Center. You will be able to customize images, text and the style/color layout of the page.

Q: By default I have a personal page, do I have to change it?

Once you sign up for an event online, by default, you will have a personal page created for you. A compelling personal page attracts and engages supporters. While you can spread the word using customized e-mail solicitations, your personal campaign page can be your own creative expression of your commitment to the cause. Customize your page by selecting the layout style that works best for you. Utilize the elements of text, photo and status indicators to their fullest advantage.

Q: How do I change my personal fundraising goal?

First, you will need to login to your Walk Center. On the bottom right side of the Walk Center homepage is the location to modify your personal fundraising goal. Enter your goal and submit the changes.

Q: How do I change my team name, team division or team goal?

Only the team captain has the ability to change the team name or team division. The team captain will need to login to his/her walk center and click the "My Team Progress" button on the top right. On the Team Process page, team captains will have the ability to update the team name, division and goal.

Q: How can I see who has donated to me?

Login to the site using your username and password. Go to your Walk Center and click the "My Progress" tab; this will allow you to view your donor list and any amounts having been donated. 

Q: How can I see who is on my team?

Login to the site using your username and password. Go to your Walk Center and click the "My Progress" tab; this will allow you to view your team roster and the amounts raised by each team member.

Q: What is a team message?

Simply go to your Walk Center and click the "Update Message to Team" button. This will allow you to make all necessary changes to your team message.

Q: What is the difference between making my personal page private or public?

By default, a personal page is public, meaning your name will appear in the participant search list, and anyone accessing the site will be able to support you. Setting your personal page to private means your name will not appear in the participant search list, and only people you personally invite will be able to support you.
